IKEA PS

IKEA PS Collection

The first IKEA PS collection was launched at the same time as the Furniture Fair in Milan in 1995. IKEA PS stands for Post Scriptum, as IKEA gives designers free reign over this one collection. IKEA releases a new PS line every 3 years or so. The aim is to create products that are fun, less predictable and appealing to a smaller audience rather than the many. IKEA’s core values are about creating design accessible to the many and so catering to even the ones who want to stray away from the norms is also inclusive in a way.

IKEA PS is fiercely independent. It is for the people who love contemporary ideas. It’s for free-thinkers who give convention a wedgie. It’s my favorite collection from IKEA and I’m always excited to see the next collection. When i first moved out into my own apartment, my house was full of IKEA PS items.

IKEA PS 2014 and 2017 stood out to me as they were about multi-functionality, small urban spaces, and moveability from house to house. Modular sofas that can grow and shrink easily. TV benches that had no screws and could be unassembled and re-assembled in a matter of minutes. Desks that can collapse and become planters if you no longer needed one. A coffee table that became a lap desk.

The next IKEA PS collection should be coming in the next year or so, so stay tuned for an update.
