Minami
225 King St W, Toronto
Designed by DesignAgency

I had the pleasure of dining here a couple months back with some friends and we chose to eat here simply because of the interior design. I love almost every project that DesignAgency does but this one stands out to me in particular. This project felt a little different from their usual palette of projects. Most of their projects seem to have lots of earthy tones, lots of wood and a general moodiness to them. Their projects feel super luxurious while not being over the top and still being sophisticated. This project, however, feels sophisticated but also dramatic, loud, and playful.

Upon entry, I was greeted by a bold koi fish mural painted on glass, made by artist Hideki Kimura, and a curved lit up wall on the side. The curved wall feels almost obnoxious in photos but in real-life feels so fitting and refreshing. The colors are bold and full of contrast but the space remains to be elegant. There’s one part of the restaurant that has these flowy fabrics hanging from the ceiling, made by Moss and Lam Studio, that adds such intimacy to the space. There’s a lot of bright colors and materials in the space but they all work playfully with one another. To top it all off, the food was amazing and the cocktails were incredible.
